I am in the market for a skid steer, and I have enjoyed Case skidsteers in the past, but talking to a friend today, and he suggested Gehl as a possiblity. Checked with the dealer here in town, I can get into a slightly used (150 hrs) Gehl, 90hp, 8000lb machine, 2 speed, loaded for 000 Canadian. I was running my friends Gehl 4640 when it just died. It was as if I just shut the key off. I went to start it back up and no "idiot lights" lit up, none of the beepers worked, glow plugs wouldn't cycle, nothing at all. It was like someone disconnected the battery. The older Gehl CTL 60 (Tak TL130 painted yellow) was great as was the 7810 we had at the same time before both were traded off for the RT210 and the V400. The new Gehl's now that Manitou has bought them are really starting to bring the suck. We will be switching to Case skid steers from now on after many various Gehl's. I have a Gehl 4835 , no heat or enclosure. I am thinking of using it to plow drives at a complex this winter. My questions are: has anyone used the acrylic after market enclosures. The front door is also acrylic with wiper. Are you happy with performance? Another question is Gehl skids are oil cooled. I was looking at heaters on ebay.
We were out plowing this morning with our Gehl 7810 skid and everything went fine for the first 3 hrs. Then, the operator called and said he could go forward and back but that no loader functions would work at all. It acts like all functions are safetied out.. Anyway the best part was that the loader was up in the air some and the door wouldn't .
I've been renting and or hiring out a skid steer when needed. In the last two years I have spent just over 11k on rentals/hiring it out. For 10-15k it looks like I could purchase a used one for my needs. One of the places I purchase/rent from sells .

Is it really necessary to wait that long before starting? I never really have had any problems starting my machine (Gehl 5640T) except when it was around zero and the outlet I had the engine block heater hooked up to didnt work .

I hear the new Kubota machines are real nice but I havent had the chance to run one and stay away from Case. Case skid steers are so jerky and rough they make a bobcat look like a Cadillac. If I was to buy a used skid steer that wasnt a cat product I would look for an older New Holland LX885.
