A wheel loader is the best for heighth, but the skid steer has it all over the wheel loader (CAT 910 in my case) for speed. I put 5' forks on my skid steer or CTL (Compact Track Loader) and it will walk all over in deep mud with a full load of hardwood logs. I would not get any other brand or make other than the aforementioned. The external cooler cost me about 4200 dollars and I installed it myself. I used a Loftness oil cooler and had to order it through Bobcat in Houston, as they were the closest Loftness dealer. If you get the skid steer setup with a mulcher, that will fix you up. Cat probably has the best machine on the market right now with the 299 XHP with a forestry package, a machine that will set you back a little over a hundred grand. You don't need that big of a machine, but you do need high flow auxiliary hydraulics. I disagree with northman on taking out a loan on this piece of gear.
Many of the stump grinders made for skid steers are produced by Alitec. New Holland, Cat, John Deere just put their label on them. Bobcat's stump grinder is a little different. The unit is set at right angle to the cab, so visability is better. I do not know who makes their unit. I have an Alitec SG 20 for my JD. Tier 4 Interim was 2008 approx. Tier 4 Final was 2015 approx. Both engines use regeneration fuel burning process along with a soot collector DPF muffler. Let's see, k for the high flow skid steer, add a brush kit, spare parts, trailer, fuel tank, tools and another k for the mulching head. Sounds great. You're all set up to knock out 1-3 acres per day in perfect conditions.
The fastest way to clear land with a skid steer mulcher with larger trees mixed into the bunch would be to go and mow as much of the small stuff bypassing the larger.
