Thinking of maybe adding a 8-9 ton machine to the fleet. Currently have stuff between 1. to 6 tons. Assumingly there is a correlation between the size of machine and how many reasonably trouble free hours one can expect. Certainly maintenance and the type of work are huge factors among other. I honestly don't comprehend any of the responses in this thread. I'm prolly buying a 3.5 ton excavator from cael for k cdn. Seems to be shortage of mini excavator in Canada. Could get vio305b for kcdn with 4000 hrs but very rusty. It's being sold by a dealer.

So, it will be interesting to see what they come up with. If you have enough trucks to keep the excavator CONSTANTLY running, you might hit 70-75% load factor. Spoil piling, as in cross country, could hit 80-85%. Waiting on trucks could lower the load factor down to 50-60% and the same with fuel comsumption.
