I'm confident in the mini excavator and I'm 99% sure he would agree to renting with the option to buy. I will be looking into the business section of the forum since I have never operated a business. I am seeking the advice and guidance of you guys along with my brother (who does 50-55 lawns a week and hardscapes) after 2 years of business.

Something that may give an edge to a small one man business trying to work as a sub contractor is to get a minimum Workers Comp policy. In CT a one man out fit costs between 0. to 0. Since there are no employees about you get a refund of 0. to 0. dollars. It popped the fuse once before and it had quit, replaced the fuse and it fired right up. When it blows the fuse the glow plugs still come on and it will crank, just wont start. Starting fluid will let it run for a few seconds but i dont like using the stuff. It seems to me to be an electrical/fuel issue. Your machine is too small for the task at hand. Seldom will any contractor in the excavating business have a machine that small. Shallow plumbing lines could be the only thing that machine is good for. There is an art to trenching with an excavator at a productive rate. 10k lb. machine would do the job in a reasonable time.

Check out the Kubota K008 mini ex. I have had mine for quite a few years and it is amazing what this little beast can actually do. I have done a lot with plumbers in walk out basements and large building basements. It tips the scale at about 1950 lbs. and will dig 5-1/2' deep and reach approx 9' high. Which Mini excavator Hi there, I'm from Australia and am a mini contractor with a mini machine. Mine is a 2 1/2 tonne Takeuchi steel tracked machine and it is very rugged. It gives almost no trouble, runs all day on less than 20 liters of diesel. Nothing like starting them young in my opinion:thumbsup: Yes I think you are probably right too that they are all pretty good and it comes down to individual preferences at the end of the day. I myself run a Hitachi Zaxis 30 3 ton machine which is a 2005 model with only 1320 hrs on the meter and I have been very pleased with it. Hey guys I'm new to the site.. have a question for ya'll on the best sized mini excavator to get for sewer/ water tie ins don't want to get something to big or to small any ideas, or input of real life exp. would be great Thanks in advance

I'm considering purchasing a new 0-swing mini excavator in the 7,500-8,000lb range. I'm considering a 2005 JCB 8032Z with 41 rental hours (very good price - but haven't heard much about them - new dealership in my area), also looked at the Bobcat 430ZHS (looked beefier than the JCB), and the CAT 303C.
