I have done a lot with plumbers in walk out basements and large building basements. It tips the scale at about 1950 lbs. and will dig 5-1/2' deep and reach approx 9' high. I myself run a Hitachi Zaxis 30 3 ton machine which is a 2005 model with only 1320 hrs on the meter and I have been very pleased with it.

I'm considering a 2005 JCB 8032Z with 41 rental hours (very good price - but haven't heard much about them - new dealership in my area), also looked at the Bobcat 430ZHS (looked beefier than the JCB), and the CAT 303C.

We have a 1½ ton mini digger and a 1-ton micro digger for hire in Colchester. Both diggers have adjustable tracks. Our micro digger will fit through a narrow access of 750mm with the adjustable tracks taken in and our mini digger will fit through a gap of about 1.1m with the tracks taken in.
