I have a mid-to-late 70’s Mustang Skid Steer, Model 330, with its original MHC MS/2699B 18HP Onan Engine. I’ve owned it for 10 years and used it infrequently (200 hours) under light loads during this period. Sits for months without startup. Guessing the engine has approximately 3,500 hours on it (hour meter broken).
A gas engine would need a governor. A Continental F162 or newer F163 out of a forklift or Lincoln welder could be an option. A little higher HP though. A welder engine should have a governor attached. There is a smaller Y112 engine that was in a Miller Big 20 but they aren't as common. Welder repair shops may be a source for a used engine. New to the forum and first time owner of a 1991 Mustang 960 skid steer T handle with the Isuzu 4jb1pk-02 runs good.I have downloaded every manual I could fine on the net. But the fuel injection pump is leaking so ordered a new one Haven't installed yet. I then bought a ford car . It had a 4 cylinder fuel injected coil pack engine . I made a intake for a carb and rigged a points typ distributor to the end of the over head cam. I have a mustang Skid Steer 2054 with hand and foot pedal controls. It has a 4TNV88-Ems Diesel engine in it and it was rebuilt before it was sent to us. We have never been able to start it without starter fluid and after we get it started it dies bought 15 minuts after fire up. i havnt been able.
Gary, if I unplug the relay marked Safety Bar Switch,Coolant Level Relay,Emergency Relay, and the oil pressure sender, the machine will not run. Turns over but won't crank. With the relay plugged back in and the switch on, the GB oil sender wire has ground and the engine will run for 5 seconds and shut down. I have a Mustang 940E with the Yanmar 4TN82E diesel engine, about 1300 hours on the engine. Occasionally it seems like it has run out of fuel and starts to sputter and sometimes stall, even with 1/2 to 3/4 tank of fuel. It sometimes can be recreated when going forward down an incline but not always. 2054 Mustang skid steer the brake locking brake switch broke at this time I could run the engine but could not move the machine. Got the broken switch back together but would not work, bought a new switch and installed switch .
