As 2109 Stang said, the 1845C was a great skid steer, partially because it was equipped with a huge engine that didn't have to work hard. Case used the same engine to power the full size backhoe loader.
Volvo then forced their dealers I think to carry only Volvo and that ended the JCB in this area. I think there is only one dealer in all of Idaho now. Unfortunately JCB bought Vibromax which used to be carried by the local CASE dealer and now getting compaction parts is . All wheeled loaders leave ruts on soft ground and dig deep when turning. The damage you do in a rubber track loader seems to grow back faster than what a wheeled skid can do. Tractor is the least damaging, but seems to take longer to do the job and can end up compacting the ground. My choice is the rubber track loader. It's pretty much the same here. Track loaders are basically only used for loading dirt or demo work. Excavators dominate here too. Cat 320's are by far the most common machines in my area. I see the points that Gammon makes, but with the mostly flat terrain we have, I can't see how a track loader would be faster in most cases.

I have a unique lakeside situation. The cottage(s) are on a steep hillside. I would estimate approx. 50-60 degree incline. Would a mini track loader, walk behind, like a Bobcat MTL50 or 52 or similar machine be able to climb this type of incline. COnditions are a grassy hill, (they cut it with a push mower), very dry, and the dig site is flat. I have never run the CAT track machine. I ran a 190 and came away with the same impression you did. I would hate to have to make a living excavating with that machine. Another option would be a large wheeled skid steer (CASE 90 or 95XT, BOBCAT S300 or equivilent) with the Loegren tracks.
