Very good simple machines. I have one, my FIL has had three. It seems the earlier 5?40 series were the most dependable. 2 speed, hyd detach and cab can make a 30-40% difference in cost. We are all John Deere except gehl skid loaders. Checked with the dealer here in town, I can get into a slightly used (150 hrs) Gehl, 90hp, 8000lb machine, 2 speed, loaded for 000 Canadian. This is a great price, and so far reading reviews online, seems to be a really good skidsteer, yet you don't see a lot of them around, so does anyone use them? The john deere looks nice and has good spec's but I believe they have only been out for a year or so. The gehl looks like a nice machine and the price makes it even nicer. GEHL's radial lift loaders range between operating capacities of 1,049 and 2,600 lbs and their lightest machine is about as small and compact as you'll find. We are shopping for a new skid steer. But a good, strong Virnig v-plow up to the stress of a skid loader might be worth investigating brand new if you get a LOT of snow drifting in your area. Post hole augers and other items are popular attachments as well, but can be rented if only needed infrequenly.
