Putting the new chain on the Driven Sprocket (33) will be easy but getting the chain on the center Drive Sprocket (25a) and then aligning and reassembling the Shaft Assembly (20) is causing me much concern. To explain: The entire Center Cluster Sprocket Assembly (Ref. 19 thru 26) is unreachable via the front and rear Chain Access openings. On those, if you broke a drive chain, it usually waded up behind a drive axle sprocket and wedged in like a mofo! LOL There is access plates on top of the chain case, in front and under the drive pump but the access is horrible. I usually blocked the machine up and dropped the entire chain case to do chain replacement. Over 1000.00 to change both primary and secondary 80HK and 60HK Roller chain from dealer. Anyone know of vendors for HK chain (not H series, but HK). Any other skid steers use this heavy of chain in 80 or 60 sizes?
I would say 80% of the time it was the right rear drive chain and the other 20% of the time the left rear. Guys liked to run with front wheels off the ground and when they hit a seam in the quarry floor or the waste pile it would put a bad shock load on the rear drive chains. I’ve been working on our 97’ case 1840 skid steer - it has 3200hrs but has had very poor maintenance from previous mechanics. My initial problem was a very very bad hydraulic leak that resulted in removing the tandem hydraulic pump and all hydraulic hoses - the hoses were in very rough shape so got them rebuilt. I got a new Holland L425 skid loader that I broke the right side wheel drive chain on and cant figure out how the chain routes on the gears. Could anybody get me a diagram of this?

I've got a 1992 case 1840, this is an early one that does not have the fiberglass covers over all the drive cogs on top of the chain cases. I recently had the wheel bearings go bad on the left front axle housing. Taking it apart and replacing the bearings was pretty easy and straight forward, but putting it back together was a huge PAIN. Make sure you have plenty of jic caps and plugs for the hoses and fittings, keeping the dirt out will help prevent you from having to do it again.
